We display 3 kinds of vehicle speed data:
Speed data is visible on Compass' Road Intelligence tools. To view speed data, you must first select a route/s on the map and then press the [Analyse Paths] button located under the Road Selection Panel. Once you've pressed the [Analyse Paths] button, the data for your selections is displayed in the Road Selection Panel on the right-hand side of the screen. Here, you will find speed data displayed as both a numerical value and in graph formats.
Speed for public and private vehicles in the top table
Speed for public and private vehicles across different graphs. Users can toggle between average, median, and 85th percentile speed.
Average speed is calculated by dividing the total distance that something has travelled, by the total amount of time it took it to travel that distance. Speed is how fast something is going at a particular moment whereas average speed measures the average rate of speed over a period of time.
The median is the middle number in a sorted list of numbers. Thus, Median Speed is the speed at which the speed distribution is separated into two equal parts. The number of speed values observed higher than the median value is equal to the number of observed speed values lower than the median value of speed.
